IT'S TIME FOR FALL PLANTING! Everyone catches the gardening bug in the spring but our Fall season actually presents the best planting conditions. Unlike spring, the fall offers warmer soil that fosters root growth, shorter day length and cooler weather that reduce the stress on plants, and the beginning of the rainy season which minimizes the need for irrigation or hand watering. These factors allow your plants to stabilize before next summer. This is the ideal time to plant: Trees for fall color Flowering shrubs Climbing vines Ground cover Hedge plants Perennials Citrus & more We also have the opportunity to grow vegetables and herbs year round. Why not try a fall/winter garden to grow leafy crops like lettuce, kale, swiss chard, spinach and all of the asian greens. Or perhaps some head crops like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and sprouts. And then there are root crops like beets, onions, leeks and garlic. And of course you can always plant perennial herbs such as Oregano, Sage, Rosemary, Thyme, Tarragon or Lemon Verbena We have a great selection of organic seedlings as well as seeds from Renee's Garden, Botanical Interests, Seeds of Change and Thompson & Morgan.
CAMELLIAS This is the time to check out the amazing variety of lush, evergreen camellias available. There are the Sasanqua varieites that bloom late fall and winter or the Japonica varieties that bloom during late winter and spring. There is certain to be a flower color and form that will be perfect for your garden.
